SPIRITUAL EXCESSES

One of those things limiting the REAL manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the Church today is “spiritual excess”. By Spiritual Excess, I mean those things we do in the name of being led, filled or moved by the Holy Spirit whereas it was our flesh and emotions moving us to do them at those times, this also includes the things we add to what the Spirit of God is doing or saying and we make everything appears as though they were all from the Lord (both the ones that originally came from the Lord and the ones we added to it). There were some things I learnt in a very hard way while I was growing in my walk with God and Calling, and this matter I am discussing with you now was one of them—God hates spiritual excesses!

Some of us gets so emotional about the move of the Holy Spirit such that we start manifesting, saying and doing things that is not from the Holy Spirit, and these things now end up creating a barrier to the ORIGINAL THING the Holy Spirit wanted to do among us in the first place. Some years ago, I was on the mission field with some brethren, we were in a village doing missionary works, and at some point, I joined those in the prayer room to pray for people, I remembered praying with a particular woman, she told me that she wanted revival in her spiritual life (she used to be very prayerful before but suddenly became cold), then I held her hands to pray for her, and as I was praying for her, the Power of God came upon her and she was going to fall down but I held her hands because I knew God is not yet through with her—Then suddenly another brother just came to interrupt the process (I guess he was captivated by seeing the Holy Ghost moving upon the woman) and he took the woman from me and began to command devils to come out of her whereas that wasn’t what the anointing was doing at that time…I was so disappointed because this brother was just being moved by the flesh and he completely stopped what the Spirit of God would have done for the woman that day. Some believers and ministers today are just so enslaved by the physical manifestations they see the Spirit doing but failed to go deeper to understand what is in the mind of God regarding His operations among His people.

Some of us pray in tongues but more than half of the tongues we speak usually come from our heads and not as the Spirit gives us utterances, some of us do prophesy but much of the prophecies are motivated by our flesh and not inspired by the Holy Spirit. Also, some of you have received a message from the Lord but when delivering the message to the people, we decided to include our own words and thoughts to make the message sound nice to people—You see, you are seriously provoking God to anger by not letting Him see the results He desired to see from His works. Some of you think you can successfully manifest spiritual gifts without developing a strong relationship with the Giver of the gifts, if you separate the Holy Spirit from His gifts, then you are going to fail woefully, and you will neither be able to grow spiritually nor will you be able to fulfill your ministry. There were many things the Lord stopped me from doing and it was very painful because I seriously wanted to do them (I assumed those things were from the Lord), and these things were things that were “normal” for believers to do for God but God does not want me in those things at that time.

I ALSO REMEMBERED WHEN GOD WAS TRAINING ME TO HEAR HIS VOICE, THOSE DAYS I FOUND MYSELF TRYING TO ADD TO HIS VOICE BUT HE WOULD CORRECT ME SAYING “NO, I DID NOT SAY THAT”—AND THIS WAS VERY PAINFUL BECAUSE THE LORD WAS TRYING TO GET RID OF SO MANY STUFFS IN MY HEART THAT WAS CONTENDING WITH THE PURITY AND CLARITY OF HIS VOICE (Psalm 12:6)!!
THE HOLY SPIRIT AT THIS TIME IS LOOKING FOR BELIEVERS WHO WILL BE DISCIPLINED, SELFLESS AND TRAINED ENOUGH TO MANIFEST 100% GOD AND 0% FLESH…May God deliver us from spiritual excesses!!! Amen.
