DON’T PRAY IN TONGUES WHEN YOU SHOULD PRAY WITH UNDERSTANDING

I saw that some Christian folks are fond of praying in tongues when it’s not necessary to do that. Now, I am not against praying in tongues as I myself do pray a lot in tongues but we must understand that this is not the only kind of prayer, there are other kinds of prayers that are very much powerful as well. Apostle Paul said he will not only pray with his spirit, he will also pray with his understanding (1 Corinthians 14:15), meaning that there are times when God expects that you pray with your understanding and not with unknown tongues. By praying with understanding, I mean that you pray in the language that you yourself understand as well as the people around you.

I began to think deeply, you know that there are some prayers certain people prayed in the Bible (including our Lord Jesus Christ) that were recorded, Now, if these people only prayed in tongues and not in a known language, how would their prayers be recorded and how would it have been a blessing to us today. Sometimes, when we ask people to pray for repentance and forgiveness, they open their mouths and began to pray in tongues, So I began to wonder, how would you pray a prayer of Repentance and Forgiveness in tongues?—A prayer of Repentance is such a kind of prayer that requires you to pour out your heart before God and confess your sins and express a remorseful feeling before God asking Him to have mercy and forgive you as you determine not to go back into your sins again. Likewise, there are times when God really wants to feel your heart, He wants you to express yourself to Him in your own words, tell Him how much you love Him, tell Him how much you are willing to serve and suffer for Him, speak out words of praises, of faith, of worship and of Thanksgiving unto Him…this is what we call HEART FELT PRAYERS. Praying in tongues will surely edify your spirit but it might not always move God to action, sometimes you need to express yourself to God in your own words.

I also discovered that the Holy Spirit does not only help us to pray in unknown tongues, He can as well help us to pray in our understanding. I could remember that I had been praying in the Spirit even before I got the gift of praying in tongues, I mean that the Holy Spirit usually fill my mouth with English words when I’m in prayer such that I don’t lack words and I would know that these words are coming from the Spirit and not from my head, and in so doing, I would be learning a lot from my prayers and my understanding would be fruitful (even some people would come to listen to what I was saying). My point here is, even when we are ready to pray with our understanding, the same Holy Spirit is able to give us utterances such that both our spirit and soul would be edified and revived.

SOMETIMES (AND NOT ALL TIMES), A 30 MINUTES PRAYER IN YOUR OWN LANGUAGE CAN BE MUCH MORE POWERFUL THAN A FOUR HOURS PRAYER IN TONGUES!!

GOD DOES NOT ONLY WANT TO FEEL YOUR SPIRIT, HE ALSO WANT TO FEEL YOUR HEART, YOUR PURE EMOTIONS AND YOUR FAITH!!! Be Wise!!!! Amen.
