THE LAW OF CHRIST (2)—Bible Study Series.
The NEW LAW which is the Law of Christ.
The first point here is:
1) God promised a new law to replace the old Mosaic law.
Ref: Jeremiah 31v31-33 “See, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new agreement with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah: 32 Not like the agreement which I made with their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to be their guide out of the land of Egypt; which agreement was broken by them, and I gave them up, says the Lord. 33 But this is the agreement which I will make with the people of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my law in their inner parts; writing it in their hearts; and I will be their God, and they will be my people”.
Even in the days of Jeremiah God already revealed a time where we shall no longer serve Him under the Mosaic Law (the Law God gave through Moses) but under a new covenant. The Lord will be inside our hearts, that is how the law of Christ operates, it is beyond dos and don’ts. The law of Christ goes beyond why you should do this or that, it goes deeper to make you do good things (right things) naturally without struggling, you just find yourself doing good things naturally. The law of Christ is deeper and powerful than the law of Moses. Ref: Hebrews 8v7-10 confirms the same truth— that God has promise a new law to replace the old law. God finds faults for the old law and decided to replace it. If the old covenant was not faulty there won’t be a need for a new covenant. Here are some few names given to the new law of Christ in the Bible:
(i) A New Covenant. Ref: Jeremiah 31v31
(ii) The Law of Faith. Ref: Romans 3v27 “
(iii) The Law of the Spirit of Life. Ref: Romans 8v2
(iv) The Law of Righteousness. Ref: Romans 9v31
(v) The Law of New Testament Ref: Hebrews 9v15
(vi) The Perfect Law of Liberty. Ref: James 1v25
(vii) The Royal Law Ref: James 2v8
(viii) The Holy Commandment. Ref:2Peter2v21
2) Jesus’ death on the Cross fulfilled and ended the law.
The death, the resurrection and ascension to heaven of Jesus Christ has fulfilled and ended the law Ref: Math 5v17 “Let there be no thought that I have come to put an end to the law or the prophets. I have not come for destruction, but to make complete”. meaning that there have always been a vacuum in the lives of those people that were following the law of Moses, their lives were not fulfilled because the law couldn’t help them, even though they knew the way to please God there is always something missing and that was Jesus. The thing that was missing is Jesus, JESUS now came in the form of human to die on the cross of calvary. In so doing, JESUS completed the demands of the Law, what the law of Moses couldn’t do, Jesus came to do it in the lives of people and even more than that. The law of Moses couldn’t save or change the lives of people. Jesus did not came to break the law of Moses in its essence but He came to make it possible; to make people do even greater things than what the law of Moses can enable them to do Ref: John 19v30 “So when Jesus had taken the wine he said, All is done. And with his head bent he gave up his spirit”. All is done means It is finished. It means that Jesus has completed the law of Moses and he has ushered us into the new law, which far greater and deeper than the law of Moses Ref: Romans 10v4 “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who has faith” ; Colossians 2:14 “Having put an end to the handwriting of the law which was against us, taking it out of the way by nailing it to his cross”. Jesus blot all those ordinances out because they could not save us.
3) The law of Moses is now discarded for believers in Christ Jesus.
Now, we don’t need this law anymore because we have been given something better and greater Ref: Hebrews 8v6 “But now his position as priest is higher because through him, God has made a better agreement with man, based on the giving of better things.” Let us enter the liberty of the new law that Jesus has given to us. We are not following the old law, don’t put yourself in bondage by following the old law of Moses. Heb8v13 “When he says, A new agreement, he has made the first agreement old. But anything which is getting old and past use will not be seen much longer”. However, There are still some things in the law of Moses that we are following today but we do it in Christ not as they did it in the old days such as paying tithes and offerings, but not exactly as they did in the old testament. The law of Christ overrules the law of Moses, meaning that if you observe the law of Christ, then you have fulfilled the law of Moses. If we are doing something that looks like the law of Moses in this dispensation of grace, it doesn’t mean that we are following the law of Moses, we are doing it in Christ and for Christ. Don’t be confused by false teachings.
4) Believers are no longer bound by the rigid law of Moses.
Ref: Romans 6v14 “For sin may not have rule over you: because you are not under law, but under grace”; Meaning that sins have dominion over people that are under the law because it is not possible for them fulfill the law. But people that are under grace, which is you and I, sins cannot have dominion over us because Grace have given us the power to destroy the root of sins. If you are still struggling with sins it means that you have not found grace yet!! When you find grace, you will rule over sins, weaknesses, addictions, pollution, and darkness. Those that are under the law, sin can rule over them but we that are under grace, sin cannot rule over us because of what Jesus did at the cross of calvary, Amen.
5) The law of Moses was not made for the righteous man.
Ref:1 Timothy 1v9 “With the knowledge that the law is made not for the upright man, but for those who have no respect for law and order, for evil men and sinners, for the unholy and those who put their fathers or mothers to death, for takers of life,”. It means that in Christ, people are made righteous naturally just as a branch connected to a tree grows and bear fruit naturally, that is the same way we manifest righteousness without struggle because there is a grace that makes us live the righteous life, then the law is not for you. You are going to fulfil the law naturally, there is no need to tell you what to do but by the Holy Spirit in you, that is how you know the right thing to do. Ref: Galatians 5v22, There is no law against those who are in the Lord Jesus because all the fruit of the Spirit fulfill the law naturally. When you are led by the Spirit of God and manifest the fruit of the Spirit, then you have already fulfilled the law of Moses.
In conclusion, what we all should desire is to be so deep in Christ that Jesus begin to live His Life through us. There are things we don’t need to tell you before you know that it is wrong, if in reality you are drawing life from Jesus, and not living your own life.
The Lord asks me to tell somebody here on this platform to Stop struggling with Jesus, Just live the life Jesus is asking you to live, yield yourself to Jesus.
