PROPHECY – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
I discovered that many Christians today have this wrong attitude to prophecy and prophesying, this is it, we believe that prophecies must be accurate for it to be true. The Lord told me that this kind of attitude is wrong. He said we shouldn’t judge the trueness of a prophecy by its accuracy but by its source. Meaning that, once God speaks, what He says is true (whether you think it is accurate or not) and we should believe the prophecy with the whole of our hearts.
Now, this is what I mean by “accuracy”, some people believe that if they can’t confirm a prophecy, then the prophecy is not likely to come from God, By confirming, I mean if the prophet doesn’t speak according to what they know or what they have in mind or what is happening currently in their lives, then the prophet has not spoken from God or he is a false prophet. You need to note that the Bible says just as the heaven is higher than the earth so is God’s thoughts higher than our thoughts…and we know that prophecies are products of God’s thoughts and will, So, the fact that you can’t understand nor confirm a prophecy doesn’t mean it is not true. In fact, what you think that God should be telling you now might be totally different from what you will hear Him say (I have seen this happen many times in my life and ministry).
Another thing I have learnt in my walk with God is that, “Not all prophecies from God will come to pass”, some of you might be surprised to hear me say this. You see, there’s a category of prophecies that MUST come to pass and there’s another category of prophecies that might not come to pass, there are examples of prophecies in the Bible that did not come to pass as they were intended to—For instance, God sends a prophet to Hezekiah to inform him that he was going to die and after a short while, the same prophet came back to Hezekiah and told him God said he was not going to die again. Another example was the prophecy that says that the children of Israel shall spend a specific number of years in the land of captivity and then return back to their land but we read in the book of Daniel that after the years were completed, the children of Israel still remained in their captivity. Now, does this mean God is not sure of Himself before He speaks?, the answer is NO, God is only trying to show us that we should put our faith in Him and not just in prophecies. It is the depth of your relationship with God that will determine the depth of His voice to you.
Now, there are what I call TIME BASED PROPHECIES, these are prophecies that have been programmed into time to manifest in their times and these prophecies will come to pass whether we believe or not, we have examples of prophecies like these in the Bible too.
I HAVE SEEN MANY PROPHECIES FAILED TO COME TO PASS, NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT FROM GOD BUT BECAUSE THE PEOPLE DID NOT BELIEVE GOD AND PRAY FERVENTLY FOR THE PROPHECY TO COME TO PASS!!
ALSO, IF GOD SAID HE IS GOING TO DESTROY A COUNTRY, THE PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY CAN PRAY AND GOD WILL HAVE MERCY AND CHANGE HIS WORD!!! Let us reach out for the heart of God and not settle for prophecies!!!! Amen.
