GIFTS AND CALLING
I saw that many times we confuse gifts and callings to mean the same thing, and we sometime assume that we have been called into a particular ministry office because we possess certain gifts that those in that office manifest. Now, this is what I’m saying, the fact that a man has prophetic gifts doesn’t mean he has been called to be a prophet! For instance, Apostle Paul had prophetic gifts but his calling was to be an apostle of Jesus Christ, and the prophetic gifts that was given to him was given so that he can use them to fulfill his calling.
Personally, I do believe that it is not “spiritual gifts” that call people into ministry, it is Jesus Christ that calls. So, if you have no personal relationship with Jesus, and have not received any specific revelation from Christ to carry out an assignment for Him, then you should not assume any ministry office or title. Please don’t get me wrong, it is true that we have all been called to preach the gospel, shine our lights, make disciples, perform miracles and manifest spiritual gifts, but there are some assignments in the body of Christ that you can not do if you have not been called and specially anointed to do them. So, it is very wrong and in fact very dangerous to assume that you are a pastor or prophet when you have never been called to become one.
Another thing you should note is that, Gifts can be seasonal or time bound, meaning that some spiritual gifts don’t show up when they are not needed, they manifest only when the Holy Spirit wants them to manifest (for instance, some people prophesy only when the Holy Spirit has a public message for the church). However, in the case of someone who has been CALLED to do a particular work for the Lord, the spiritual gifts given to him will always manifest as long as he is still doing that work. Therefore, the fact that God is using you to prophesy, heal the sick, raise the dead or cast out demons doesn’t automatically make you an Apostle! Do not be carried away by TITLES but desire to find your own place in the Body of Christ, Know your calling, your mission, your divine assignment and fulfill it – It is your assignment that will determine your leadership position (some of you are meant to be Evangelists or Pastors and not prophets).
PEOPLE USUALLY ASK WHETHER TO CALL ME PASTOR OR PROPHET OR APOSTLE…BUT I ALWAYS TELL THEM THAT IT IS NOT THE TITLES THAT MATTERS BUT THE ASSIGNMENT GOD HAS CALLED ME TO DO FOR HIM!!
IF YOU BELIEVE YOU ARE GIFTED, THEN FIND YOUR CALLING AND USE ALL YOUR GIFTS TO FULFILL THAT CALLING…Heaven will not reward titles but success in your divine assignments!!! Amen.
